Since this site is in my name, you may want to know who I am.

In 2008, I ran for the Shelby District 8 County Commission seat.  I lost.  In commiserating the loss with a neighbor, she informed me that it could have been worse.  I could have won.  I love my neighbors. But since I had built a web site for the campaign and have the domain name, I have decided to redirect the purpose of the site.

During my campaign, I emphasized the need for long term planning and the need for our various commissions, boards and the legislative delegation to work together.

I still believe in that goal.  This web site will be a source of information about long term growth and planning. I intend to maintain this site to keep you informed on the progress or lack of progress in the county to implement long term planning for the county.

I have proposed that development be subjected to a regulatory fee that will require county planners to plan for growth and put funds against the planned growth.  I believe that once the myths of impact fees are dispelled, the citizens of Shelby County and the developers can recognize that impact fees will keep Shelby County attractive for growth and keep the builder's markets viable for the long term.

I was born in 1945 at Fort Still, Oklahoma. After the war, my family relocated to Auburn, Alabama where I was raised. I graduated from Auburn High School in 1963 and Auburn University with a BS in Industrial Engineering in 1968. Soon thereafter I began a 22 year career in the United States Air Force and served as a Weapons Systems Officer in the F4 Phantom II as well as an Aircraft Maintenance Officer. My service deployed me to many areas around the world including Ubon Royal Thai Air Base (RTAB) in Ubon, Thailand (1972-1973) and Hahn AB Germany (1978-1979).

In 1990 I retired from US Air Force and located my family to Shelby County Alabama.  While in the Air Force I earned a Masters in Business Administration from Webster University.  After I retired from the Air Force, I earned a Master of Public Health Administration at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.  I live in the Brook Highland subdivision in unincorporated Shelby County.
